I have a question. How does uplighting buildings, even as a tepmprary demonstration, set a proper example for others to follow in responsible use of lighting? I just don’t follow your logic.

Thanks for your comment Michael. Apologies for the delayed response.
The approach to design and the skills we use determines the lit effect.
The Guerrilla event is planned and organised very carefully; we make sure each individual luminaire is precisely positioned and aimed to minimise light pollution, glare and skyglow.
Our hand-held torches are charged from the renewable grid and we use low-energy LED light sources as much as possible.
We also try to be sympathetic to the architecture and public spaces. We employ intensities and colours that are compatible with the particular style and use of the buildings and we target only inner-city, non-residential, non-commercial public realm sites.
A wider program of lectures and events runs in concurrence with the event, communicating these principles.
We invite key stakeholders, such as local government officials, city and private architects and engineers as well as members of the public in the hope of engaging them with how things are lit.
Please keep an eye on the blog for any future events near you, where we’d be happy to welcome you along to experience our approach first-hand.

I’ve just seen the images from my native city of Belfast when you last “attacked” these shores. All I can say is wow… Bring it on this Friday 25th September 2009 when the magic happens all over again..
